In the Forth Mansion of the spiritual classic “The Interior Castle”, St Theresa  of Avila implores those who desire mature Christian prayer to seek ‘the God of consolation, not the consolation of God’. Contemplative prayer in all its rich tradition in the Church essentially assists the earnest seeker to encounter God on God’s terms rather than ours. If you are interested in deepening your encounter with God or to establish a more contemplative dimension to your prayer life why not come and join like minded people who seek the same through the practice of Centering Prayer?

 As described by Contemplative Outreach ‘ …Centering Prayer is a method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, prayer in which we experience God’s presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself. This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship’ www.centeringprayer.com. St Joseph’s Subiaco will start a meditation group commencing June 2010 adopting the principles of Centering Prayer to support those who wish or who are called to a deeper union with God via a contemplative journey.

The intention is to meet in the Sacristy at 5.30pm every second Wednesday to meet in silence concluding the meditation with the Angelus bell at 6.00 pm. A  brief reflection will ensue after the meditation for about 15 minutes concluding at 6.15 pm. The reflection will help process the experience of Centering Prayer and the journey of living the contemplative dimension of the Gospels in everyday life. Initially the meditation sessions will be co-ordinated by Fr Joe Walsh and Dr Neil Preston. More information about the meditation group will be available in the coming weeks – so stay posted.

The St Josephs Chamber Choir presents Songs in the Fall. The program features the music of some of the Americas most popular contemporary choral composers including Eric Whitacre, Z. Randall Stroope and Morten Lauridsen. These composers are three of the biggest names in chorale composition today. The program will also include music from South America, a highlight of the program being a sung tango by Astor Piazzolla.

The Chamber Choir is a small group of semi-professional young singers. It aims to become a leader of choral excellence in the Perth music scene. It also aims to foster positive relationships and general well-being amongst young people through the use of singing and being part of a team working together for a greater good.

Fr. Ian Doyle a priest of the Dioceses of Arundel & Brighton, an All Hallows graduate, and nurse is currently working with the area of AIDS/HIV in South Africa and has recently returned from Haiti.
